Carrot
Once upon a time, there was a beautiful garden with lovely plants. There lived a small family of carrots in a small wooden box. There a young innocent carrot was planted. Soon, his little green hair pushed through the earth and popped out for everyone to see him. His name was Felix.
He was quite happy with his life, he had friends all around him who often talked of their owners, the Crisses. Felix often wondered what they were like and what they did. He didn't see them that often other than tending to the garden and playing volleyball in the yard. He often wondered why he was in this garden. He did love his family and friends, but why did the Crisses have him there?
Months passed and the summer heat poured down. Felix all the other plants grew up and are going to be picked soon.
One day Lydia (one of the Criss girls) came out to the garden. This was normal, every day she would pull out any weeds and give them all fresh drinks. But she wasn't wearing her "weed-pulling gloves", she wasn't pulling the hose behind her. Felix paid no attention, he thought nothing of it. As Lydia came to the garden she stopped over the tomato patch. Felix had made many tomato friends and was proud of them to have got her attention. But then she did the unthinkable, Lydia took a hold of Carter (a tomato) and tore it from the plant.
Felix gasped, What is she thinking?! He was horrified, Lydia was always so nice to all in the garden and now... His thought trailed off. But all of a sudden it hit him, was he going to be the next one to be taken by this plant killer? Terrified he tried to shrink down so he wouldn't look as big. Lydia didn't seem to notice him, 'cause she just skipped out of the garden as if she hadn't a care in the world. Slowly Felix sat up straight. He looked over at the tomato patch, where he saw Carter's family crying over his death. He didn't know what to do, he just was in shock.
That night was so hard. He couldn't sleep from the fact that his friend was just killed in front of him and that Carter's family was crying all night. He couldn't help but think that what if he was taken or one of his siblings. What would he do?
From that day on, every time one of the Crisses would come outside everything in the garden would fill with fear. Who's next? Was everyone's terrified thought.
After a week nothing happened. Felix relaxed a little but was still a little on edge. Then the dreaded day came. Lydia came out with an empty basket. Felix knew what this meant, she was going to take some of them away today. Shaking, Felix again tried to shrink down into the ground. But Lydia didn't really care how big the carrot was for she walked up to the carrot bow and started pulling them out. His heart raced, trying his hardest to make himself invisible. All his family was being ripped from the earth and placed into the basket. Then Lydia came to Felix, she reached her hand down and pulled at his green hair. "NO!" Felix cried, but she didn't seem to notice. She tossed him into the basket with the rest.
The carrots were taken inside. Wow, Felix thought, I've never been in the house before. He looked around at the small kitchen. There was a big silver cabinet with two doors, a top, and bottom. There was a weird looking counter thing that has four circles on it, with a pot on one of the circles.
His thoughts were quickly interrupted when Lydia pick him up and put him under something like a hose but it was stuck in the counter. After being rinsed off he was placed in a bowl with holes in it. Soon, all the carrots joined him. He was squished under all of them, he was miserable! After Lydia washed them all, she put them in the silver cabinet. It was freezing! Felix began to softly cry, Why is this happening? I was torn from my home and now I'm in this torcher chamber!
Hours passed like years. Felix was wet and cold but thankfully had his family near. Then someone opened the door and a bright light turned on. Blinded by the light, Felix didn't realize that some of his family were being taken. But once his eye adjusted they were gone and the door slammed shut. "No!" he screamed. A flood of helplessness came over him. He couldn't do anything for his family.
