30-Day Writing Challenge Day 8: A Fictional Story About Someone You Know

The Sliver Most of this was pulled from my own childhood memories but some are original. =D   "Hey Momma, look at this really neat piece of wood I found!" Hope said proudly holding up a slivery piece of wood.    "Wow, Hopie!" Momma said, "Just don't get a sliver."    "Okay," Hope said. "Ouch!" Hope said dropping the wood. Holding her finger she saw that a small sliver in her finger. "I don't think Momma saw," she thought "I don't want her to get out the tweezers!"    Oh, the tweezers! The worst tool ever, made to only give pain to small children when they get slivers. Well, at least that's what she thought they were for.    "I'll just not tell her. I'm sure the sliver will go away without having to dig it out." So Hope went on with her day forgetting all about the sliver.    The next morning Hope woke up and her finger didn't feel well at all. "Well, maybe if I ge...

August 2018 Weekly Writing Challenge: Write the first chapter to a novel you have no intention of ever finishing.

Check out my sis's blog for her chapter! The Bolt    Detective Dave Burgman slowly pulled out his revolver and cautiously walked toward the warehouse. Arron Oscar, his partner, walked behind him, pistol in hand. Slowly he opened the door, once he had checked to see if it was safe he waved his hand toward Arron. Arron was soon at his side.    "You'll go to the next floor, I'll search down here," Dave told Arron. Arron nodded and walked toward the stairs. Dave looked around the large room, it was empty except for a few old crates.    A shot rang out from the next floor. "Arron!" Dave yelled, running toward the stairs. He ran up the stairs gun in hand. Carefully he walked into one of the rooms. A man stepped out. "Where is my partner?" Dave demanded.    "Oh, that scrawny kid?" the man mocked, "He's taking a little nap. But with him out of the way let me introduce myself, my name is Rex Alberts."    "What have ...

August 2018 Weekly Writing Challenge Week 3: Pick an object next to you, and write down what it is – let your stream of consciousness tell the rest of the story

Check out my sis's blog for her story! Carrot  Once upon a time, there was a beautiful garden with lovely plants. There lived a small family of carrots in a small wooden box. There a young innocent carrot was planted. Soon, his little green hair pushed through the earth and popped out for everyone to see him. His name was Felix.  He was quite happy with his life, he had friends all around him who often talked of their owners, the Crisses. Felix often wondered what they were like and what they did. He didn't see them that often other than tending to the garden and playing volleyball in the yard. He often wondered why he was in this garden. He did love his family and friends, but why did the Crisses have him there?  Months passed and the summer heat poured down. Felix all the other plants grew up and are going to be picked soon.  One day Lydia (one of the Criss girls) came out to the garden. This was normal, every day she would pull out any weeds and g...

August 2018 Weekly Writing Challenge Week 2: Go to your nearest book. Turn to page 51. Find the first line on the last paragraph on that page. Use that line to start your scene.

Go check out my sis's blog for her scene! Only those who walk will find out. -Choosing Forgiveness by Nacy Leigh DeMoss  "'Only those who walk will find out'. I've got nothing!" Dina cried, "I'm trying but it's just not working!" she pushed her laptop away and flopped on her bed.  "Are you okay?" her older sister Emma said, opening the door.  "No! I'm not." She told Emma. "I have to send in this story tomorrow and I don't even know what to write about!"  "Well, what's it about?" Emma asked trying to cheer her up sitting on the bed.  "Basically I have to write a scene starting with the line 'Only those who walk will find out'. Got any ideas?" She rolled over facing the wall.  "That sound like a great line. It could start so many interesting stories."  "Yeah, and I can't think of any," she mumbled back.  "Well, how about a st...

Writer's Block?

Image
I was sitting at the computer trying to write a story for my 30-Day Writing Challenge. I was trying my hardest to write but just losing all my creativity and inspiration.  It can be so hard to write when you have writer's block or just when you can't focus on what you're writing. I get it! I try to write every day but for the last week, my mind just refuses to write what I want it too! And also I really can't (or don't want to) write when I don't have a source of inspiration.  Here are some ideas to combat writer's block and hopefully help you! 1. Make it fun. Currently, I am listening to super fun pop music. It helps me write faster and also I don't contradict myself as much (not sure why). It's so fun to dance along and somehow it helps me get ideas that otherwise I wouldn't have thought of. You could also do something really simple like eat or drink something good while writing. It sounds kinda dumb but it just helps to make it more fu...

August 2018 Writing Challenge Week 1: Use the Lyrics of Your Favorite Song and Write a Short Story.

Check out my sister's blog for her story. =) Eye of the Storm  "Honey, I'm home," Evelyn called opening the door after several hours shopping.  "Hey, Babe," her husband Peter said kissing her. "How was Christmas shopping with your sisters?"   "Oh, I never get tired of being with them! Especially around the holidays!" she said putting some of the food she got away. "Oh, they invited us to open Christmas gifts at their house."  "I can't wait!" he replied.  "Babe?" Peter said walking into the kitchen still a little sleepy.  "Yah," Evelyn replied, "Oh, Merry Christmas, my love! I made your favorite breakfast!"   "Well, you are the best wife a man could ask for!"  "Darling, I have some news!" she said barely containing her excitement. "You're going to a daddy!"   "What! Babe, that wonderful!" he said giving her a big hug. ...

30-Day Writing Challenge Day 10: Describe a Famous Painting

Image
I typed in famous paintings and this was on the list. Even though I've never seen nor heard of it I think it's so pretty and beautiful! I think the perfect painting to describe. Water Lillies by Claude Monet  I can imagine walking across the bridge and gazing over the peaceful stream. Breathing in the fresh scent of lilies and marveling over their beauty. The breeze gently blows ruffling the trees overhead. I lay against the rail taking in all this beauty.

30-Day Writing Challenge Day 9: What You Ate That Day

I know I skipped a day, day 8 will be coming out soon I'm not as good at writing stories is all. =D Today is Sunday. I don't normally eat in the morning so I didn't think about food when we went shopping. As we were shopping Hannah mentioned that she hadn't eaten that day. Looking at the clock I realized that it was 2:30. I was very surprised that I didn't feel hungry. We shopped for another hour or so and then went home and ate zesty bean burritos for lunch\dinner.  The rest of the day we just chilled. Daddy and Momma went shopping again and so we watched the Flash and I had a bowl of frozen corn and a chocolate shake.  In the evening we really didn't have a dinner plan. It was more free for all. I think I had a blue barry donut and a few cups of Snapple.

What Happened to the Writing Challenge?

Hello! You might have noticed that I haven't done the writing challenge the past week. Well, I'm stuck on A Fictional Story About a Person You Know. I started writing it with some great ideas but then my brain decided to take a break and now I can't think of anything to write! I'm not stopping just taking a break so I can come back and think! Maybe I'll start writing the other days and come back to this one.  But anyway, that's what happened to the writing challenge. I'm going to finish this I just hit a wall and I have to find a way to climb it. =)

30-Day Writing Challenge Day 7: A Book You Love

Image
My sister (Susanna) read this series to me when I was like nine and recently I decided to read them again and I still love them! I just finished the last book (which was one of my favorites!) and it's definitely a book I love!  After meeting a long lost uncle who spent most of his years seeking adventure in America and Canada, Tom Sanders and his two friends (Carl and Bert) are challenged to make the distant journey to their uncle's castle.  Only a few hours into their trip they have trouble. When they're food vanishes and Scout (Tom's dog) doesn't wake them up. After seeing a stranger in a market square Tom notices that Scout is completely okay with this stranger, in fact, he likes him, which is very uncommon with Scout.  But the mystery man isn't the only one who causes trouble for these lads. An arsonist has been burning forests and buildings and the boys are being blamed for it!  Can they make it to the castle or wil...

30-Day Writing Challenge Day 6: Someone Who Inspires You

Image
As all of you know I love doing hair. I've always kinda liked doing hair but was never really good at it.  About ten months ago I saw a youtube video about ways to pin a bun and it was awesome! I tried the techniques and they totally worked! Then I started following the girl. Kayley Melissa. She is super fun and bubbly and is amazing with hair. Almost all the hairstyles I've done on this blog I've either gotten from her or used the techniques she uses.  Kaley is such an inspiration to me and a very talented hairstylist! I love her work, her personality, and her amazing youtube channel!

30-Day Writing Challenge Day 5: What's In Your Bag?

Image
First I'll just show you my super cute purse! I got it from my sis and she got it from Fred Meyer. It just has one big pocket and there are some smaller pockets inside. But let's talk about what actually in my bag. I've got some sunglasses and their case, my wallet, two very essential pads, two packages of tissue, a mirror, and three full bottles of hand sanitizer. I don't think I need that many! I will say I do tend to clean out my purse, just lately I haven't been using it so I don't clean it!

30-Day Writing Challenge Day 4: The Weather

Image
I woke to being kinda cold. Slowly opening my eyes slowly realizing that I was on the ground. Finally remembering that last night my bed was much to warm so I slept on the ground. Not realizing that my VERY thin blanket was not going to keep me warm.  As the morning dragged on it was still a little chilly for me. After a while, I decided to read outside in the sun. After being out there I came in and it was much warmer inside. Closing all the windows I checked to see what the temperature was. I was very surprised that is was already 88*. After doing some dishes and laundry I was really feeling the heat and cranked up the fans and sat down trying to cool down.  As the day crawls along the heat sucks out my energy so writing a blog post (while listening to music) really helps!

30-Day Writing Challenge Day 3: Your Day in Great Detail

I woke to Hannah getting ready. It was around 9:45 (don't judge!). I stayed in bed for a while helping Hannah pick out her outfit for church. After a while, I got up and did my hair and got dressed. Finally, when a bathroom was open I brushed my teeth and washed my face. After doing my makeup I was ready and we were off to church.  Once we got home Hannah and I went to pick out outfits for this week while waiting for lunch (the first meal of the day) to cook. Afer about fifteen minutes Rebekah called us all to lunch. Our amazing lunch was rice with ground beef in it, Brussel sprouts, and some potato salad.  Once lunch was over Hannah, Matthew, and I went back into our room and hung out. I finished a DIY tee shirt I'd been working on the day before. Matthew really liked it and asked for one also, so I made him an Arrow shirt (which isn't done quite yet).  Then I got on the computer and watched some Kayley Melissa (my all time favorite Youtuber). After that, w...

30-Day Writing Challenge Day 2: Describe a Color

Image
When I look at this color I immediately this of a blazing fire or a beautiful sunset.  When I think of the fire I hear it's crackling and it's amazing energy! I see this color and I think of its beauty and I also see the power of just a simple color.  I see a sunset after an overcast day. I see it's amazing beauty after a dark and gloomy day.  You don't often think of the power of just a simple color, but when you really think about it colors have such a big impact on how we live, our mood, and our creativity. God made colors so we could have excitement and differences on this Earth. So next time you see a color really stop and think what all just one color can do.
